At the recent MIT Health and Life Sciences Collaborative (MIT HEALS) event, Professor Linda Griffith, director of the Center for Gynepathology Research (CGR) at MIT, delivered a bold talk titled “Move Over, Mice!”—a call for innovation in women’s disease research.
Griffith highlighted the urgent need for better diagnostic tools and treatments for conditions like endometriosis and infertility—areas that have long been underfunded and overlooked in medical research. She underscored how traditional research models, particularly those relying on male-biased studies and animal testing, fail to address the unique complexities of women’s health.
“MIT’s ‘Move Over, Mice!’ movement was inspired by the incredible challenges we have creating effective therapies for diseases that preferentially affect women,” Griffith explained.
In less than nine minutes, Griffith exposes systemic gaps in women’s health care, the barriers to developing effective treatments, and the groundbreaking technologies that could revolutionize the field. Her talk is a must-watch for anyone—scientists, patient advocates, or health care innovators—who cares about the future of medicine.
